Feltography

I grew up studying dance and piano. I eventually left the stage and became an arts manager and curator. In my free time, I explored crafts. I tried my hand at silversmithing and enamels. I painted watercolors, wove micro glass beads, crocheted cacti and sewed home decor. Then I found needle felting. I love how fibers can be manipulated and blended to create vibrant portraits and landscapes. 

I love to make fiber renditions of the natural world. I’m drawn to animals, bugs and insects. I equally adore sea and mountain scapes. 

I’m also a mom of an amazing kid and two sweet cats. When I’m not crafting, I love to hike, swim and snow ski. 

Feltography is handcrafted two dimensional fiber art. Woolen fibers are blended, layered, concentrated and formed into vibrant portraits and landscapes.

A photograph inspires an illustration and informs a color palette. Various types and colors of wool are hand blended and formed into felt with notched needles. As the fibers are layered and intertwine shadows, angles and textures are created. Eventually, a felt image or portrait emerges.
